What are Cacao Pods?

These pods are the protective casing in which Cocoa beans grow - the origin of chocolate! They are impressively large and dark coloured pods, elongated in shape and rough in texture. Grown on the Cacao Tree originally found in the Amazon Rainforest, these pods are perfect for naturalistic terrarium and vivarium setups.

The benefits of Cacao Pods

Cacao Pods are aesthetically perfect and look great in any tropical rainforest setting. They are ideal for use in naturalistic and Bio-active terrariums and are also widely used in aquariums, releasing beneficial tannins and offering shelter for small fish and shrimps. The large size of these pods make excellent hides for small reptiles, invertebrates and amphibians. There is a small hole in one end where the beans were extracted, they can easily be cut to make this larger and easier to access if required.

  • Suitable for bio-active and naturalistic terrariums.
  • Aquarium safe.
  • 100% Natural and free from chemicals.
  • Excellent for hiding and climbing.

How to use Cacao Pods

  1. Place into the enclosure on the surface of your substrate or safely stack to create extra height.
  2. Mix with other seed pods, nuts, leaf litter and moss to create a forest floor (detritus layer).
  3. Spot clean regularly, removing waste and insect husks will help to minimise mould growth.
