In the wild, hatchling snakes are found in disused rodent burrows, hollowed out logs and any other number of secure hiding places. Little snakes have a lot of predators in the wild! We are firm believers that hatchling snakes require more space than the basic plastic tanks offered in most setup deals. This is why our Essentials Hatchling Snake Kit includes a spacious 61 x 38 x 30cm Wooden Terrainium; allowing for more freedom of movement, greater range for thermoregulation and more space to add natural décor to enhance environmental enrichment. Ensuring the snake feels secure in its habitat will in turn, minimise stress. A stressed hatchling is less likely to feed regularly, therefore it is our belief that providing the optimum habitat from the beginning, gives your snake the best possible start in life.
All essential heating and equipment is included. The heat mat we supply with this kit, sits away from the animal in a specially designed glass slot, offering protection from burns and water spills; plus peace of mind with a top of the line, Pulse Thermostat to control your temperatures. Connected to your heat mat, this enables you to replicate the temperatures from their native habitat. With basking temperatures averaging around 28°C for most popular species, we include a digital thermometer to monitor the temperature reading within the terrainium.
UVB lighting is essential towards the health and well-being of all reptiles. Through extensive research and trials we are confident in saying that snakes not only benefit from having access to UVB, but actively utilise it from day one. Included is a market leading mini T5 lighting kit at the optimum spectrum for your snake. We recommend placing the tube on the same side as your heat source, creating a warm ‘sunny’ area for the animal to bask under. Replacing your tube at a maximum of every 12 months will ensure the correct UVB index is being met throughout the lifespan of the snake. The lighting is recommended to be on for 12 hours during the day, so we suggest using the included timer to switch off at night, allowing for a natural night time routine. We understand that the addition of this unit makes our kits a slightly higher cost to our competitors– but we firmly believe that this is the optimum kit for your reptile. This light unit can also be transferred over to the adult vivarium so needs only be a one time purchase.
We highly recommend using a water conditioner to neutralise the chemicals in tap water and add beneficial electrolytes for your snake. They do on occasion seem to enjoy bathing in the water dish, our kit includes a water bowl large enough to facilitate this.
A natural looking habitat is not only aesthetically pleasing but it provides enrichment for your young snake, encouraging instinctual behaviour. Included with your Essentials Kit is natural Cork Bark and a natural branch- perfect for creating a safe hiding area and realistic artificial plants add to the natural look.
Young snakes love tunnelling through a their substrate, not unlike how they would in the wild, moving unseen through corn fields and hunting rodents in hay barns. The Essentials kit includes a soft, species specific substrate, plus a reptile safe disinfectant for keeping the environment clean and smelling fresh.
