What do Jade Plants look like?

These are a succulent evergreen plant, with shiny thick, jade green leaves which grow in pairs. The stem has a woody appearance, giving the look of a small tree. This plant, if left unpruned, can reach up to 2.5 metres and live for many years.

Where are Jade Plants from?

Native to semi-desert areas in South Africa and Mozambique.

How to care for Jade Plants

These plants will thrive in arid conditions. Water when the soil is just dry to the touch, they must not dry out completely - but equally they must not be kept too wet. Water around the base of the plant, taking care not to saturate the soil. Plant in well drained substrate under full spectrum plant growth LED lighting in a vivarium. Roots can often be seen sprouting from branches, this limb can be cut and planted, and will continue to grow. Each leaf of this succulent is also capable of growing roots and becoming an entirely new plant.

They can be planted in Tortoise Tables and in grassland or more arid vivariums scattered with rocks. These are edible for all reptiles, though care must be taken to avoid excessive consumption as this plant can have a laxative effect.
