What are Moneta Leaves?

Our Moneta Leaves are from the Chamaecrista orbiculata shrub which grows in the seasonally dry tropical range of Brazil. They are highly decorative, often used for crafting; with a rounded shape and prominent veins. They come in a variety of shades of green, peach and pink hues and have a rich floral aroma.

The benefits of Moneta Leaves

Moneta Leaves are ideal for use in Bio-active terrariums, simply scattered onto the substrate to create ground cover and enrichment; they look highly decorative. These natural biodegradable leaves break down much more slowly than other leaf litter, gradually turning a rich shade of brown. A variety of species, which live amongst leaf litter such as beetles, isopods, millipedes, and springtails will benefit from the nutrients created as these leaves break down. By adding a natural leaf layer to your terrariums ‘forest floor’, it will help facilitate water retention within your substrate, preventing it from drying out too quickly. These leaves also fit with a more arid style setup, adding texture to an otherwise sparse enclosure. Our stock is responsibly sourced from Europe to ensure long term sustainability, dried out to remove unwanted pests (without the use of chemicals or pesticides) and then carefully packaged. This process ensures that it is 100% safe for terrarium use.
