Perfect for use in bio-active and naturalistic terrariums for decoration, ground cover, and to help raise habitat humidity levels for moisture loving reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Can also be used in a damp box for egg laying or shedding.
Reindeer moss is actually a fruticose (coral-like, bushy) type of lichen, also known as deer moss and caribou moss as it forms a large part of a caribou’s natural diet. It is soft and spongy to the touch and in its natural form, is an aesthetically pleasing pale cream colour. It grows naturally in colder climates in boreal pine forests on both soil and rock but will survive in arid or humid enclosures. In certain areas of its range, this lichen is endangered and harvesting is regulated.
Reindeer Moss is perfect for filling out open spaces in naturalistic and Bio-active terrariums, and works well in either an arid, woodland or tropical setting. It retains moisture well, making it an ideal medium for use in wet hides for Leopard Geckos and other species requiring an isolated area of humidity, or in next boxes. Easily create enrichment by encouraging natural foraging behaviours for a wide variety of species when food is scattered amongst this moss. The moss is actually edible (though unpalatable for most species) and 100% safe for animal use in this natural, ‘undyed’ pale cream coloured state - care must be taken to avoid bright green or other colours of reindeer moss commonly sold for crafting purposes, as the dyes used aren’t animal safe. Our stock is responsibly sourced from Europe to ensure long term sustainability, dried to remove unwanted pests (without the use of chemicals or pesticides).
Please note: This is a natural product, traces of other plants may be present. The shape, size, colour and texture may vary slightly from the stock photo.
